Alecia Clary, PhD, MSW

Associate Director of Research

Alecia Clary brings expertise as a health services researcher and implementation scientist to the Reagan-Udall Foundation for the FDA.  She draws on her experience in research methodology, econometrics, and implementation science to execute high-quality qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research studies.  Her quantitative experience includes designing quantitative studies using large secondary data sources including electronic health record, claims, administrative, operations, and registry data analyzed using epidemiologic and econometric methods. Her qualitative experience includes designing qualitative studies, writing qualitative interview and focus group guides, and analyzing and interpreting qualitative data using traditional and novel methods including directed-content analysis, qualitative comparative analysis, and coincidence analysis.

Prior to joining the FDA Foundation, Dr. Clary was a research scientist at Avalere Health, where she designed and conducted studies focused on using real-world evidence to evaluate and improve healthcare quality. Dr. Clary has held previous roles as a qualitative research analyst and research health science specialist at the Durham VA Medical Center.  She also held a previous role in the Institutional Review Board at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research.

Dr. Clary earned a doctoral degree from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at UNC Chapel Hill, a master's degree from the UNC School of Social Work, and a bachelor's degree in Sociology from UNC Chapel Hill.
